CREATIVE PATH
My journey into art was not foreseen.
As a child I grew up drawing only horses. I was a regular horse obsessed little girl who dreamed of working with horses and/or animals. I entered college studying health sciences in hopes to become a zoologist but I quickly realised that working in a lab was less than tolerable and had me questioning my future as a zoologist. I turned to the academic advisor who strongly suggested I go into the art program. Up to this point I had never thought of a career in the arts nor did I know what that really was. But I took the leap and began exploring and developing my art skills. After shockingly getting accepted at Concordia University, I started to take my art more seriously and thus began discovering my artistic voice.
Like the majority of us, my childhood was a complicated one and I found solace with horses and drawing, both allowing me a place where I could just be in the moment. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and growing up in a family and culture ruled by a veil of secrecy and denial I found peace with horses, animals, nature, drawing horses and making art & crafts with my mom. Animals shared the vulnerability, innocence and the inability to communicate with words that I too was experiencing. When I was 11 years old I decided to become vegetarian after learning about the cruelty and injustice in the meat industry. Since that day I have continued to advocate for animal rights and encourage a plant based diet. I sometimes use my artwork as a platform to raise awareness for animal rights and the exploitation of our Earth caused by human control over the natural world. Only later in life did I realise that fighting for animal rights was connected to my own fight for the voiceless. Art has truly been a therapeutic outlet and been another way of finding my voice. My intense love for the natural world allows me to see beauty in all living things. To me, creating art is more about philosophy than about art. Art is a way of seeing the world, asking questions, and the attempt of understanding life and its many wonders.
